弘一法师在闽南期间，足迹遍布各大寺院，泉州开元寺、承天寺、温陵书院更是大师经常弘法讲学的场所。弘法之余，并把书法当成参禅的一门功课，为泉州留下墨宝，验证了大师与泉州的不了之缘，创作此形象，正是为了纪念弘一法师。
During Master Hongyi’s stay in southern Fujian, he visited all the major monasteries, and lectured in the Quanzhou Kaiyuan Temple, Chengtian Temple, and Wenling Academy. In addition to promoting Buddhism he regarded calligraphy as personal cultivation in Buddhist enlightenment, leaving many calligraphy works for Quanzhou. The sculpture is made to commemorate Master Hong Yi’s inseparable bond with Quanzhou
